The Rugby High School Guidance/Career Counselor, Julie Sjol, has been assisting the juniors for the past four years in completing a job shadow experience in a field of their choice. By using the Career Interest Inventory results that the students have taken every year during her guidance lessons and the experience of attending the College/Career Fairs each year, she and the junior in high school contact a professional and/or career individual that is a good match and schedule a day to job shadow.

Students can be excused from one day of school to shadow an individual that is willing to share with them what they do for a day and the requirements listed in the documents are completed. Students have shadowed individuals and professionals in Rugby as well as Grand Forks, Minot, Devils Lake, Beulah, and many more. Students and parents have documents to complete and turn in and there have been very positive evaluations from this that have proved it to be a successful and worthwhile endeavor. Students have also experienced and learned soft skills that are imperative in the working world.

The main purpose is to help students decide what they want to do after high school, whether it is to achieve a vocational, technical, associate degree or bachelor's degree or beyond. Call Julie Sjol at 776-5201 if you have any questions or want more information.
