George Thomas Sattler

Nov. 25, 1925 - Feb. 5, 2018

George Thomas Sattler, the son of Sylvester and Kathrine (Thomas) Sattler was born on November 25, 1925 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He died at the age of 92 years on Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home in Southview Estates Assisted Care in Rugby, North Dakota.

George was reared in the rural Knox, North Dakota home of his parents and received his education in the Knox School through the 8th grade. Following school, he worked on the family farm and for area farmers until he was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 14, 1944. George served in the Army Medical Corp. in Texas, Missouri and the Philippine Islands until his honorable discharge on December 1, 1946. After service, he returned to Knox and worked in the Wurgler Garage. On June

7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ruth Nesvig at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Knox. The couple lived in Knox for a while then moved to Rugby where George worked at McGuire's Auto and did farming for Andy Johnson in the Willow City area. After several years farming with and for Andy, George and Patricia

rented the farm operation from Andy, later purchasing it. The couple raised their eight children on that farm. In 1982, George and Patricia retired to Rugby from the

everyday farm operation, turning it over to their son, Randy. Although he moved off the farm, it did not stop him from helping Randy until he was 86 years of age. Still, you could find him last year in the cab of the combine. Patricia died January 20, 2016.

George was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Rugby Eagles, the Clarence Larson American Legion, Rugby, and the Minot Moose

Lodge. Highlighted pastimes were dancing, playing golf and the love of the farm.
