Trapshooting team falls to second in conference

The top of the conference has always been in contention for Rugby's and West Fargo High School's trapshooting teams this season.

Rugby got to the top early in week one, but West Fargo was able to get ahead of Rugby by a razor thin 80-point margin (2,768-2,688) in week two. Rugby would get back on top in week three and stay on top in week four.

But week five was a different story.

West Fargo outscored Rugby 2,888.5 to 2,361.5 to retake the top of the conference in Class 1A Conference 5. In total points West Fargo had 13,429.5, and Rugby had 12,984.5. Enderlin was just 10 points behind Rugby in week five, and was in third place with 10,364 total points. Nedrose (9,410.5) was in fourth, Williston (8,601.5) was in fifth, Barnes County North (7,036) was in sixth, and Garrison High School was in seventh with 6,657 total points.

For the third week in a row, Kordell Kraft was at the top of the top 10 conference male members, with a season average of 24.20. Teammate Seth Jaeger took the second spot with a season average of 24. Spots five, eight, nine and ten were all Rugby team members. Zach Jaeger took fifth with a 23.1 season average. Blair Kuhnhenn, Carson Mattern and Kaden Jaeger rounded out the top ten with season averages of 22.8, 22.7 and 22.3, respectively.

In the top 100 overall season averages of 2018, Kraft fell to fourth behind Grafton's Conner Carriere (24.2 season average). Seth Jaeger was at seventh, behind South Prairie High School's Jackson Lindbo (24). Zach Jaeger was ranked 25th, Kuhnhenn ranked 33rd, Mattern ranked 41st, Kaden Jaeger ranked 49th. Teammates Brock Haakenson ranked 78th and Zachary Bryn ranked 81st, both of them having 21. 7 season averages.

Kyla Radomski was at the top of the conference's top 10 female members for the fifth week in a row with a 23.3 season average. Amber Schmaltz rounded out the list with a 16.3 season average.

In the top 100, Radomski ranked 15th, behind Oak Grove Lutheran's Gavin Sunderland (23.4).

The state's Clay Target League tournament will be held June 16 and 17 at The Shooting Park in Horace.
