Panther baseball takes 7th at state

The Rugby Panthers ended their baseball season in Jamestown with an action packed 7th inning against Enderlin-Maple Valley on Saturday, June 2 which gave them a final of Rugby 2, Enderlin-Maple Valley 1 after a two-run bottom of the seventh. The Rugby Panthers placed 7th overall in the state.

The North Dakota Class B baseball tournament opened on Thursday, May 31 at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown, and the top three seeds advanced to the semifinals. They were No. 3 Carrington, which opened the tourney with a 3-0 win over Enderlin-Maple Valley, while No. 2 Park River-Fordville-Lankin defeated Des Lacs-Burlington 10-0 in 5 innings with the 10-run rule in place. The No. 1 seeded Thompson beat Rugby 11-1 in 5 innings with again the 10-run rule in place. Thursday night wrapped up with No. 5 Beulah defeating No. 4 Velva-Drake/Anamoose 17-3 in 6 innings.

The following day's consolation semifinals saw Enderlin-Maple Valley vs. Des Lacs-Burlington with Des Lacs-Burlington winning 5-0. The next game was Rugby vs. Velva-Drake/Anamoose and ended 8-7 with Velva-Drake/Anamoose on top.

Finishing Fridays semifinals Carrington vs. Park River-Fordville-Lankin ended with a win for PRVL 9 -2. The game between Thompson and Beulah ended with Thompson winning 10-2 10.

Saturday saw Rugby beat Enderlin-Maple Valley 2-1, which put Rugby in 7th Place. Velva-Drake Anamoose won 5-4 over Des Lacs-Burlington. Carrington won 7-0 over Beulah. In the championship game, Park River-Fordville-Lankin beat Thompson 7-3.

This was the second year in a row the Park River-Fordville-Lankin Aggies team was victorious in the Class B State Championship title.

Aggies' Nicholas Thompson was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Aggies.

The Thompson Tommies led 2-0 through four innings, but the Aggies tied the game in the top of the fifth and later took a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the seventh. The Tommies tied it in the bottom of the seventh when Cadyn Schwabe reached on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Schwabe later scored on a RBI-single off the bat of Braeden Amborn.

The Aggies plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to regain the lead and held off the Tommies in the bottom half of the inning for their second straight championship.

Trey Larimer was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Tommies.

Finals in the State Class B championships were:

First place: Park River-Fordville-Lankin winner over Thompson 7-3

Third place: Carrington winner over Beulah 7- 0

Fifth place: Velva-Drake Anamoose winner over Des Lacs-Burlington 5-3

Seventh place: Rugby winner over Enderlin-Maple Valley 2-1.
