Arlene Elizabeth Benson

Arlene Elizabeth Benson, 83, Rugby, died after a brief illness at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Arlene was born on September 18, 1935 to Lewis Clifford and his wife Laura Mae Armstrong Jemtrud in Rolette, North Dakota. She lived at Mylo and went to Pleasant Valley country school until she graduated from Rugby High School in 1953. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in the Jacobson building until 1954.

On June 1, 1954 she married Bernard Leroy Benson at the Mylo Lutheran Church. They settled on the Benson farm in Elverum Township Pierce County near Silva.

She lived there with her husband, Bernard, who died on November 30, 2015 until she moved to Rugby after his death.

She was active in Bethany Lutheran Church, the quilting group, and W.E.L.C.A. Arlene had a nice circle of friends and enjoyed visiting with everyone.

She is survived by their children, Brian and his wife Phyllis St. Augustine, Florida; Kathy Benson Sittee Point, Belize; Margie and her husband Thomas Geffre - Crete, North Dakota; Leroy and his wife Konni Welk Minneapolis; and Dean and his wife Yulia Farmington, Minnesota and a daughter-in-law Renee Benson Boise, Idaho. She also leaves a sister, Judy Brackel Bowman, North Dakota; brothers Robert Shelley, Idaho; O.D. - Leesburg, Florida ; Alve Vadnais Heights, Minnesota ; and Don - Fargo. Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren will miss their grandmother very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Leslie July 1, 1995, a brother - Ronald and her parents.

Funeral Services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Barbara C. Haugerud officiated and Barbara Lee was the organist.

The casketbearers were Drew, Jonathan, and Luke Benson, Jordan Enstad, Jordan Geffre, and Todd Lysne. The Bethany Lutheran quilters acted honorary casketbearers.

Visitation was at the church on Wednesday after 9 AM until the time of the service.

Burial followed the funeral service at Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby.
